Family of four displaced in Va. Beach house fire

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A family of four in Virginia Beach has been displaced after a fire caused significant damage to their home Wednesday night.

Virginia Beach Bat. Chief Josh Goyet told 10 On Your Side the fire was in the 5600 block of Sedgemoor Road and happened around 9:50 p.m.

Goyet says the family — two adults and two children — was in the home at the time of the fire. One of the adult family members was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Crews able to get the fire under control within 30 minutes of arriving on scene, according to Goyet.

Investigators say there was significant damage to the home, which has displaced the family. The cause and origin of the fire are still being investigated.

Goyet says it is unknown if the family had working smoke detectors.
