Bad weather believed to be cause of fatal crash in Chesapeake

Police have identified the driver as a 40-year-old man from Pasquatank County.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A driver died after losing control and crashing into a tree in Chesapeake, Friday.

Police have identified the driver as 40-year-old Charles Michael Perkins, of Pasquatank County.

Police say it happened in the 700 block of S. George Washington Highway (part of S. Rt.17), along the canal bank.

Crews responded to the scene at 2:27 p.m. and pronounced the driver dead at the scene.

It is believed the bad weather played a part in the accident, said police.
