Norfolk State makes women’s basketball coaching change

NORFOLK (WAVY) — Norfolk State has made a change with its women’s basketball program. Head coach Debra Clark has been removed from her position and is being replaced by men’s associate head coach Larry Vickers on an interim basis.

NSU Director of Athletics Marty Miller says that Clark will be reassigned within the department.

Clark was in her seventh season and compiled a 58-129 record.

“I want to thank coach Clark for her commitment and service to the women’s basketball program,” Miller said in a statement released by the University. “But I felt that now was the time to make a change to move the program in a different direction.”

Vickers will be pulling double duty. In addition to assuming head coaching duties for the women, he will continue to work with the men’s program.

“Coach Vickers has served as a coach with our basketball program for eight seasons.” Miller added. “He is very familiar not only with the men’s basketball players, but the women’s team, as well. This will give us some continuity with the student-athletes in order to complete the season.”

NSU has lost 17 games in a row dating to last season’s MEAC tournament semifinals.
