NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Authorities have arrested a suspect wanted on drug charges after a pursuit in Newport News Thursday.
Investigators say it started just before noon in York County when officers attempted to arrest the suspect in the parking lot of Heritage Square, near Lakeside Drive and Route 17.
Officers tried to corner the suspect in, but the suspect backed into a police vehicle and escaped. Police pursued him into Newport News, where the suspect crashed into another vehicle and bailed.
He was eventually detained in a wooded area, near an apartment complex on Denbigh Boulevard and Patrick Henry Drive.
Police say suspect was driving a Dodge Charger with stolen tags. They found heroin, cocaine and $3,800 in cash on the suspect.
Earlier in the day, the York County tactical team served a search warrant at the suspect’s house where they found cocaine, heroin and drug paraphernalia, as well as packaging material for the distribution of drugs.
He was charged with possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute heroin, three charges of being in possession of a firearm while in possession of firearms, three charges of being a convicted felon in the possession of a firearm and felony evade and elude.
