Powerball jackpot now up to an estimated $800 million

RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) – The estimated Powerball jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing has been increased to $800 million. This increase is the result of unprecedented sales in Virginia and nationwide.

If one ticket matches all six numbers in Saturday’s drawing, that person will have a choice of taking the full $800 million in 30 annual payments, or a one-time cash option of $496 million before taxes.

The Virginia Lottery estimates sales of 6.9 million Powerball tickets in Virginia on Saturday alone, the day of the drawing. At peak times on Saturday, Powerball tickets will be selling at a rate of 13,800 tickets per minute across Virginia.

Powerball is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
