RUSTON, La. (AP) — Trey Freeman scored 21 points and Aaron Bacote added 17 more to lift Old Dominion to a 56-53 win over Louisiana Tech and snap the Bulldogs’ 39-game home winning streak Thursday night.
Freeman was 10 of 21 from the floor, while Bacote was 6 of 10 and had a pair of free throws with a minute remaining to break a 53-53 tie. Denzell Taylor then went 1 for 2 from the foul line to pad the advantage and got a steal with 13 seconds left to clinch the win for Old Dominion (9-6, 2-0 Conference USA).
Louisiana Tech (12-3, 1-1) had battled back from a nine point second-half deficit to briefly retake the lead with Alex Hamilton’s layup to make it 51-49 with 2:56 left.
Hamilton finished with 15 points to lead the Bulldogs, who’d entered the game with the second-longest active Division I home win streak.
The victory was Old Dominion’s first road win of the season. Saturday ODU travels to Southern Mississippi. Next Thursday the Monarchs host preseason conference favorite UAB, when it will try for its 33rd-straight win at the Ted Constant Center.
