Multiple shots fired in Newport News, occupied car hit

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. police responded to a call and found that several rounds of ammunition were discharged, hitting a residence and a parked, occupied vehicle in Newport News.

The shootings occurred in the area of Ivy Avenue and Ridley Circle.

Police say that one round hit the rear window of a car parked in the 1500 block of Ivy Avenue. At the time of the shooting, there was a man, woman and three children inside the vehicle. One of the children, a 4-year-old boy, was struck by shattered glass.

He had minor injuries to his face and was transported to an area hospital for examination.

A preliminary investigation revealed that several rounds had been discharged in the 600 block of Ridley Circle. One of these rounds struck a residence, but it was unoccupied.

It is unknown at this time the reason for the shooting or who the intended target or targets were.

There is no information on a suspect so far.
