Police chase ends on Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A police chase that began in Virginia Beach came to an end on I-64 East near Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake Saturday night.

Police received a call at 8:39 p.m. for a robbery that was took place at a convenience store in the 600 block of Newtown Road in Virginia Beach. The suspect fled the scene in a large rental box truck as police were arriving on scene.

The suspect was driving erratically and failed to pull over after the marked police cars turned on their sirens and lights. The police chase entered into the City of Norfolk and the City of Chesapeake.  Road spikes were deployed on I-64 which resulted in the truck slowing to a complete stop on I-64 East near Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake.

The suspect failed to comply with verbal commands which resulted in a K-9 release. Shelvin Dontae Alston, 26, was taken into police custody and was transported to a local hospital for minor, non-life threatening injuries from the K-9 bite.

Alston is being charged with driving under the influence, eluding, suspended operator’s license, open container and failure to maintain lane.

According to the VDOT website, three lanes of traffic east bound on I-64 were closed but lanes have reopened.
