Suspect in deadly Norfolk stabbing sentenced to 50 years in jail

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The man accused of stabbing a 71-year-old Norfolk man is now facing a 50-year prison sentence.

Matthew Mangus, 48, pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree murder and credit card fraud in court on Thursday, he received a 50-year active sentence.

The incident occurred in early June — police were dispatched to the 9300 block of Grove Avenue after receiving reports of a stabbing.

Officers on the scene found 71-year-old David G. McDonald, of Norfolk, dead. Police later arrested Mangus and charged him in connection with the incident.
