More than 8,500 lose power after transformer blows in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Thousands of people were without power in Chesapeake after a circuit went out in the area overnight.

Dominion Virginia Power Spokesperson Bonita Harris told WAVY.com that they lost a transformer in the Deep Creek area near Yadkin Road at 2:24 a.m. The resulting outage affected 8,508 customers.

Harris said power was restored to all but 10 customers as of 7:35 a.m.

Crews are working to determine what caused the transformer to blow.
