VBPD arrest teen for making threat against school

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police say they have arrested a 15-year-old Kellam High School student for making a threat against Virginia Beach Public Schools online.

Investigators were made aware of the online threat made on the social media site, 4Chan on Monday. However, the threat did not specify which school or what kind of threat it was.

On Tuesday morning, police identified the teen and determined the threat was not credible. An e-mail from police spokesperson MPO Tonya Pierce said after speaking to the teen and his parents, investigators determined the 15-year-old did not intend to carry out the threat nor had the means to carry it out.

The teen was charged with one felony count of communicating threat to school – electronically. He is being held in the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center.

A spokesperson with Virginia Beach Public Schools told 10 On Your Side Monday evening, “At this point since it’s a nonspecific threat that has not been substantiated it would be premature to send an alert while police investigation continues.”

Just last week, Virginia Beach police charged a teen for a threat against Princess Anne High School.

The commonwealth’s attorney made a point of sharing, posting threats could have lifelong consequences.
