NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Elizabeth River Crossings says crews have completed two big milestones on the new Midtown tube this month.
Workers removed the last barrier separating the Norfolk and Portsmouth sides. Now they can travel the whole span from Norfolk to Portsmouth.
Crews also installed a new tide gate to protect the new side from severe weather. ERC says it’s about the size of an HRT bus and is designed to accommodate future sea-level rise.
The new midtown tube is scheduled to open in December 2016.
