Dog owner charged after child was attacked in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A little girl was attacked by dogs Sunday morning at a home in the 500 block of Margaret Drive and now the owner is facing charges.

According to police, the victim was with her mom visiting family friends there and was playing outside with their dogs when she was bitten in the neck. It was the day before her 7th birthday.

“This ambulance it came down towards the home, but then it started speeding up,” neighbor Rebecca Reaves said. “It was not your average speed. It was urgent.”

The victim had to be airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General, and then later transported to CHKD for surgery.

“It’s kinda scary when you hear that the Nightingale was brought in,” Reaves said “You know then it’s bad.”

According to Chesapeake Police, the breed of the two dogs is Belgian Malinois.

Tuesday, police confirmed the dogs’ owner, 25-year-old Molly Talmadge, has been charged with two counts of vicious dog. The two dogs are in custody of Chesapeake Animal Services.

Back on Margaret Drive, neighbors are shocked by the attack. One neighbor said they saw the two dogs playing with young children a day earlier.

“Terrible, our thoughts and prayers are with them and the whole family,” Reaves said. “We have two dogs of our own I couldn’t imagine in a million years being in a situation like that.”
