VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach Police have arrested two men who robbed a pizza joint and fled the scene early Friday morning.

Police arrested 21-year-old Maceo Demetric Peoples, of Norfolk, and 23-year-old Raphah Warren Jones, of Norfolk following a short chase through Virginia Beach.

The incident started shortly after midnight on Friday when two men robbed the Chanello’s Pizza on Pleasure House Road.

Police say that two men entered the Chanello’s, and that one of them was armed with an assault rifle. The suspects demanded money from two employees.

Witnesses on the scene told 10 On Your Side’s Rico Bush that both suspects cornered one of the workers to the back of the store while the other worker escaped.

That employee slipped away to a nearby 7-Eleven and contacted law enforcement about the robbery.

Shortly after that, police say the robbers sped away with police right behind them.

Officers chased the suspects for about four miles, before the driver of the red car crashed into a median on Northampton Boulevard near Diamond Springs Road.

The two men were then arrested by officers after they attempted to flee on foot. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries for evaluation.

Both Peoples and Jones are facing two counts each of armed robbery, conspiracy and use of a firearm. Peoples has also been charged with two counts of abduction and eluding.

Police have not yet released photos of the suspects. The incident remains under investigation.
