ODU’s Jeff Jones: “Officiating absolutely is different on the road”

NORFOLK (WAVY) — Following a break for exams, the Old Dominion basketball team is back on the court Saturday when the Monarchs travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State.

The Panthers won the Sun Belt Conference title last season and they come in with a 4-2 record, ODU is 4-4. The Monarchs have won 28 consecutive games at the Ted Constant Center, but are winless away from Norfolk.

Head coach Jeff Jones was asked why it’s so difficult to win road games in college basketball.

“I’m not referring to anybody in particular, the officiating absolutely is different on the road,” Jones said. “People can argue until they are blue in the face, there’s no way that somebody can look me in the eye and say you get the same whistle on the road as you do at home, it just doesn’t happen.”

ODU returns home December 18th against Maryland-Eastern Shore.
