Suspects’ vehicle catches on fire after shoplifting

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police in Suffolk have arrested two shoplifting suspects after their vehicle sparked on fire and they were forced to pull over.

Police began to follow the suspect vehicle after receiving a call of a larceny at the Wal-Mart in the 6200 block of College Drive Wednesday around 2 p.m.

According to investigators, the suspect vehicle, a blue Toyota Camry, was seen leaving the Wal-Mart area around that time. An officer then followed the vehicle onto Interstate 664. Police say the Camry continued on I-664 while smoke was coming out from the car.

The car eventually pulled over at the bridge office complex, on the northbound side of the tunnel, when the fire sparked. Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews also responded and the fire was extinguished.

The suspects 47-year-old Quincy Campbell and 62-year-old Rose E. Clark were arrested.

Campbell was charged with shoplifting, elude police, driving on a revoked license and obstruction of justice. Clark was charged with shoplifting.
