POQUOSON, Va. (WAVY) — A sailboat was hit by a 32-foot fishing vessell off of Cow Island early Wednesday morning.
Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) is investigating the incident, which occurred around 4:50 a.m.
The sailboat was anchored in the Poquoson River and did not have its lights on when the pleasure craft “Points North” reportedly struck it. There were two people sleeping on the the sailboat at the time.
One of the passengers of the fishing vessel was thrown overboard, but was able to get out of the water, according to Laurie Naismith with VMRC.
The Coast Guard was also notified, but the VMRC is the investigating agency.
