Man holding skateboard struck by vehicle in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 19-year-old man was struck by a vehicle in Norfolk Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the man was running across Hampton Boulevard at 39th Street shortly after noon when he was hit. The victim was holding a skateboard at the time of the incident.

Investigators say the four-dour Kia was traveling on Hampton Boulevard, in the right-hand turn lane, with a tractor-trailer stopped in the middle lane. Because of the tractor-trailer, neither the driver of the Kia nor the man saw each other, and the Kia struck the man in the middle of the intersection.

Police say the man was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries, but they do not appear to be life-threatening at this time. He remains in stable condition.

No charges have been filed.
