Fire at elementary school in Suffolk; no changes in school’s schedule

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Emergency crews responded to a fire behind Elephants Fork Elementary School in the 2300 block of William Reid Drive Saturday afternoon.

Upon arriving to the scene, fire fighters discovered a mobile classroom was on fire. Fire fighters were able to extinguish the blaze in 20 minutes.

Damage from the fire was mostly to the ceiling, as well as some school supplies.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears to be centered around a heating unit in the classroom.

Suffolk Public Schools has said there will be no changes to the schedule for any students because of the fire.
