Suspect in custody after police chase

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — After a chase and search involving police dogs, Portsmouth and Chesapeake officers took a suspect into custody on a warrant for felony gun and narcotics charges.

Portsmouth police officers went to a home in the 3600 block of Tejo Lane just before 9:15 a.m. Sunday to serve a warrant on a man wanted on felony gun and narcotics charges, according to investigators.

The pursuit began about 15 minutes later when the suspect ran into the woods, according to a sergeant on the scene.

Police dogs from Chesapeake and Portsmouth helped track the suspect to Churchland and Western Branch boulevards, about a half a mile from Tejo Lane.

Medical personnel treated the suspect on the scene for minor injuries, and Portsmouth police took him into custody.

Investigators have not released the suspect’s name, or what led up to  the charges against him.
