BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A North Carolina principal is now facing a felony charge for an accident involving a minor.

Ricky Eley was arrested in Suffolk last month for an accident in Petersburg, Virginia. According to the incident report, Eley left the scene, but his lawyer tells 10 On Your Side that’s not the case.

In a statement, Attorney Todd Stone says Eley called the police and stayed at the scene. He expects the charge to be dismissed.

Meanwhile, school officials confirm Eley has stepped down as principal of Bertie High School. His resignation will be effective November 30.
