Items recovered at pawn shop lead deputies to a man associated with area break-ins

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — Stolen items that deputies with the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office recovered at a pawn shop lead to the arrest of Earl Wallace Jeffers III — a man associated with a string of area break-ins.

On Nov. 15, the sheriff’s office responded to a call of a case of breaking and entering and larceny in the 2500 block of Main Street in Elizabeth City.

After an investigation, the sheriff’s office discovered that several items — including jewelry, electronics and firearms — were stolen from that area. Deputies later found the missing jewelry at Chauncy’s Pawn Shop.

Jeffers had pawned the missing items at the shop that morning. Deputies later found Jeffers at the Comfort Inn, less than a mile from the pawn shop, hiding under a different name.

The Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Jeffers with breaking and entering, felonious larceny, larceny of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He was taken to Albemarle District Jail, where he was placed under a $108,000 secured bond.
