NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The American Planning Association will honor Colley Avenue with its People’s Choice “Great Places” designation.
There will be an awards presentation and celebration Thursday night at 5 p.m. in front of Blair Middle School on Spotswood Avenue. The APA says Colley Avenue, which runs through the heart of Norfolk’s Ghent community, was this year’s clear favorite. Norfolk beat out other communities like Florence, Alabama; Salt Lake City, South Bend, Indiana; and Somerville, Massachusetts.
The APA recognizes communities with exceptional character, quality, economic growth and attractive public spaces.
Tonight, Mayor Paul Fraim and city manager Marcus Jones, along with a member of the Ghent Business Association and the City Planning Commission will accept the award. The event is free and open to the public.
