NORFOLK (WAVY) — Old Dominion University announced on Wednesday that it has agreed to a two-game series in football with East Carolina.
The Monarchs will travel to Greenville on September 29, 2018 and the Pirates will play in Norfolk September 28, 2019.
ECU is the closest FBS school to ODU and when the Monarchs agreed to join Conference USA, ECU was a still a member, but the Pirates left for the American Athletic Conference before ODU started C-USA play.
East Carolina was the first FBS team ODU played. The Monarchs lost in Greenville 52-38 in 2013, their first transitional season from FCS to FBS.
“We had the opportunity to open our season in 2013 at East Carolina and were very excited with their game day atmosphere,” ODU Head Coach Bobby Wilder said in a statement released by the University.
“We continue to try to schedule as many regional home and home series as we can so that our fan base can see great games at home as well as have easy travel to the away games. I am hopeful this is the start of a special series with East Carolina that we can continue for many years to come.”
ODU now has future non-conference games scheduled with Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, North Carolina, NC State, East Carolina and Appalachian State.
