NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A crane boom at the Elizabeth River Tunnel project in Norfolk fell Tuesday morning, according to a spokesperson for SKW Constructors.
In a statement, SKW Spokesman Stephen Meyers said that around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, a 170-foot crane boom fell because of a mechanical failure at the project site. The crane was on a the south end of the Norfolk approach to the Midtown Tunnel.
The crane operator was lowering a load of a two-by-four wood to the ground against an external wall of the approach when the incident occurred.
No one was injured and the incident remains under investigation. The accident did not impact traffic.
