Marching bands from local schools were playing patriotic music to energize the crowd on hand. One veteran in attendance says there is nowhere else that he would rather be.
“One of the reasons my family and I settled here in Tidewater, in Virginia Beach is because the military is part of the community,” he said. “I was stationed all over the world, and it’s not always that way, even in the United States.”
Children in attendance also had the opportunity to learn about and walk around the inside of an amphibious assault vehicle that the United States Marine Corps. uses.
“They’re very brave and I’m thankful for them protecting our country so we can come out here and celebrate it today,” said Zachary Belen.
There was a short ceremony at Tidewater Veterans Memorial after the parade as well as a luncheon honoring our veterans at the Doubletree Hotel.
