Portsmouth Police investigating Wells Fargo robbery

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Police are looking into an armed robbery that was reported Monday afternoon at a Wells Fargo branch located at 2400 Airline Boulevard.

Police say the suspect entered the branch wearing a New York Yankees baseball hat and sunglasses, around noon. According to detectives, the man implied he had a weapon and demanded money from the teller.

The teller complied and he fled the scene on foot, say police.

Portsmouth Catholic Elementary School was on precautionary lockdown due to the incident. The lockdown was lifted a little past 1 p.m. on Monday. No one was injured.

Detectives are searching for a black male in his mid 50s, standing approximately 5’11” tall and weighing 180-210 pounds.  He was last seen wearing dark colored pants, green jacket, orange shirt, NY Yankees baseball cap and white sneakers.
