No one injured after ferry ran aground in Hatteras Inlet

HATTERAS, N.C. (WAVY) — The Coast Guard says no one was injured after a ferry ran aground at Hatteras Inlet, Monday afternoon.

Officials say the North Carolina Department of Transportation ferry Roanoke ran aground around 11:30 a.m.

Officials say there were 16 vehicles, 23 passengers and seven crew members aboard the ferry at the time of the grounding.

Crews from Station Hatteras Inlet took the passengers off the ferry and relocated them to Hatteras Ferry Terminal in Hatteras, around 2:30 p.m.

The Roanoke will be towed to the Hatteras terminal to unload vehicles and be inspected for any damage.
