WASHINGTON (MEDIA GENERAL) – Social media giant Facebook grew a little larger this week after President Obama launched his own personal page in an effort to connect with more Americans.
“Hello, Facebook! I finally got my very own page,” said President Obama in his first post published around lunchtime Monday.
The Obama campaign and The White House already have their own accounts but Monday’s new portal is listed as a place to allow the president to engage directly with the American people.
The new page also features a video where Mr. Obama stressed the need for Americans to be aware of the dangers of climate change.
Within just a few hours of launching, Mr. Obama had more than 38,000 likes to his new page.
In addition to videos and wall posts, the page lists President Obama’s personal history including photos of his wedding,
Similar to the standard for tweets by White House staffers, the Facebook page warns users their posts may be archived.
