Police ID victim of Virginia Beach ATV crash

Virginia Beach, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach Police have identified the victim in an ATV all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident that occurred early Sunday morning off of Winston Avenue.

The victim is 24-year-old Joshua Anthony Hutchinson, of the 3600 block of Winston Avenue.  Police say that Hutchinson was operating a 2011 Honda Rubicon ATV near the location of the crash when he exited the trails and entered the roadway.

Hutchinson was traveling southbound on Winston Avenue when his ATV left the roadway on the right side, running into a ditch and striking trees. Police say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers and paramedics responded to a call about the accident around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say that alcohol is considered a factor in the accident, but say it is unknown if speed was also a factor.

Officers shut down Winston Avenue between Salem Road and Indian River Road while the department’s fatal crash team investigated.
