SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A 3-year-old boy who wandered away from his preschool in Suffolk Friday morning is safe, police confirm.
As of Friday evening, police have released few details about how a 3-year-old boy wandered away from his preschool.
A woman spotted the child walking along Bridge Road near I-664 around 11 a.m., called police, and stayed with him until officers arrived, according to police spokeswoman Diana Klink.
She confirmed the boy wandered away from Antioch Preschool & Academy in the 4200 block of Crowdy Blvd.
The child was uninjured.
There were mixed emotions from parents 10 On Your Side spoke to at the daycare. One mom who also has a 3-year-old at the center said she wasn’t upset when the owner called her about what happened.
“I honestly didn’t get concerned. I honestly didn’t. I felt like it’s got to be something… that they just missed,” Ebony Holland said.
Holland told 10 On Your Side’s Brandi Cummings she loves the daycare her daughter has attended since the beginning of the school year. So without knowing many specific details, she didn’t want to place blame on anyone.
“I think we need to find out what happened. Was the teacher not paying attention? Was the child being defiant? I need to know more before I base an opinion about the whole facility,” Holland said.
Another mother was upset. Although not willing to go on camera, she told Cummings after seeing the report on WAVY News 10 Midday, she immediately picked up her daughter.
