Norfolk football game rescheduled for safety reasons

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk Public Schools announced Friday afternoon a decision was made to move the Lake Taylor High School and Booker T. Washington High School football game to an earlier time “to more effectively manage safety and crowd control.”

The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night, just after noon officials announced it was rescheduled to 3:30 p.m. the same day, then at 1:30 p.m. they announced the time changed again — to Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Lake Taylor.

Karen Tanner with NPS told they moved the game a second time because of the availability of the football refs.

Tanner added this is going to be a huge game and she said it is easier to manage crowd control in the daylight instead of at night. She said she did not have a specific reason for the late call to move the time, but safety is always a priority.

Rashad Costely, a student, said “Somebody put something on Facebook talking about it being canceled because there was supposed to be fighting and stuff.”

10 On Your Side has also confirmed the Camden County High School vs. Perquimans High School football game has been moved to 1 p.m. Saturday, due to a “possible conflict.” School officials did not elaborate on the decision.
