CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Police have all three suspects in connection with a robbery outside a Chesapeake Bank of America Thursday in custody.
The third was arrested Thursday night and has been identified as 25-year-old Derrick Corbett, brother of suspect Jamal. Derrick has been charged with Grand Larceny & Conspiracy to Commit Grand Larceny.
The other suspects 22-year-old Jamal Corbett and 21-year-old Nigel James, were arrested following a chase with police.
Officers were called to the bank in the 300 block of S. Battlefield Boulevard at 10:25 a.m. According to MPO Kelly O’Sullivan, a customer with a deposit box had just been robbed in the parking lot.
Police located the suspect vehicle on Poindexter Drive, near I-464 and tried to stop it, but the driver kept going. The vehicle, a black Mercedes, finally stopped in the 1100 block of Holt Street in Norfolk. All three people inside got out and ran.
“I was just getting off work,” Antioneal Blagmon, a neighbor said. “As soon as I pulled up I just saw police coming from everywhere like they were chasing someone.”
In the Tidewater Gardens neighborhood, people said crime isn’t rare, but doesn’t mean searches and pursuits in their backyard don’t bother them.
“It’s traumatizing to go through this every two weeks,” Blagmon said. “If somebody’s not dying, somebody’s getting shot. They’re shooting in broad daylight and the people are getting crazier and crazier by the day.”.
