NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police had additional officers at Heritage High School in Newport News Thursday after someone made online threats.

10 On Your Side reached out to school administrators who say they are notifying parents and students about the situation.

According to a post on the Newport News Police Department’s Facebook page, officials were alerted of a social media threat posted on Twitter Wednesday. Officials said the threat turned out to be a hoax, but they did not take any chances during the school day.
