NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Officers closed Warwick Boulevard from Mercury Boulevard to 73rd Street while workers repaired a power line damaged during a crash Saturday morning.

Police responded to a call about a car crash at 73rd Street and Warwick Boulevard around 11:20 a.m., according to a spokesperson with the Newport News Police Department.

They found a Honda Accord that had struck a power pole, and transported the 60-year-old woman driving the car to the hospital, where she was treated for injuries to her head and face. She is expected to recover, according to police.

Police say the driver indicated she was trying to avoid an animal when she crashed.

Police charged the woman with reckless driving, failure to maintain control of the vehicle.
