Fire on Goshawk Court spreads to boat

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A firefighter hurt his back while battling a fire on Goshawk Court Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was called in at 2:15 p.m. According to Asst. Chief Jim Hoffler, the fire appears to have started in a detached shed. The flames spread to a privacy fence, then climbed up into a 2-story garage on the adjacent street. Hoffler said a fiberglass sailboat also caught on fire. There is extensive damage to the structures impacted by the fire.

The firefighter who was injured did not have to go to the hospital.

The fire marshal is on scene working to determine a cause.
