Spike strip used to stop driver in Va. Beach police chase

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police say they chased down a suspect on the run.

Saturday shortly before 1 a.m., an officer tried to pull a driver over for an equipment violation, but the driver did not stop. Investigators say the suspect ran red lights and nearly hit an officer before they started the chase.

They laid down spike strips and the driver ended up striking a brick sign at Silina Drive and South Plaza Trail. Police say the suspect continued to drive until crashing into a traffic light at Rosemont Road and Dam Neck.

Police say the man was still not cooperating, so they unleashed a police dog.

Medics took the man to the hospital with serious injuries.

The case remains under investigation. Police have not released the suspect’s name.
