Two suffer serious injuries after crash into ditch

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Two people suffered life-threatening injuries after the vehicle they were in crashed into a ditch early Sunday morning.

Chesapeake firefighters spent about half an hour trying to extract the people from the vehicle after the crash, according to Chesapeake Police spokesman Officer Leo Kosinski.

The crash happened near the intersection of Beaver Dam Court and Beaver Dam Road just after 2:15 a.m.

Sentara’s Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance is down for maintenance, Kosinski confirmed, so first responders took the two patients by ground to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Kosinski did not say whether speed or alcohol factored into the crash, but said the investigation remained open.
