VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – An accident knocked down wires onto the road at the intersection of Shorehaven Drive and Great Neck Road Friday.
Police dispatchers confirm there are injuries reported in the crash, which occurred just after 11:30 a.m. North and southbound lanes were briefly closed but have since reopened.
Images and video from the scene show the incident also sparked a fire, although police have not confirmed that information yet. Click on the video player above to see the explosion.
Dominion Virginia Power confirms there are outages in this area. Spokeswoman Bonita Harris said there were 2,069 customers, including Cox High School, initially without power because of the crash. All but 103 were restored by 12:17 p.m. She said the rest of the customers should see their power return around 4 p.m.
