NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Police are crediting a Crime Line tipster with helping them solve an aggravated malicious wounding case.
Detectives have been looking for Novar Gayle since late August. He’s accused of running over a woman near the 3700 block of Robin Hood Road.
The 18-year-old victim told police she was talking to the driver when he abruptly drove off while she was holding on to the passenger side door handle. The woman was run over by a rear tire. She was seriously hurt, but expected to recover.
Police released a photo of the suspect to the public on September 8, but did not know his name at the time.
Several weeks later, a Crime Line caller provided a possible suspect name. Police say that tip led them to arrest Novar Gayle in Newport News on October 6.
He was charged with aggravated malicious wounding and is being held at the Newport News City Jail.
