CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake firefighters battled a fire at two vacant homes on Commerce Avenue Friday morning in the South Norfolk section of the city.

According to Capt. Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Dept., fire crews responded to the 1100 block of Commerce Avenue near Liberty Street around 3:08 a.m. after receiving a call for a fire. When crews arrived on the scene they found heavy amounts of fire and smoke coming from a two-story home. Crews also found the fire had spread to the vacant home next door.

It took about 40 minutes for crews to bring the fire under control.

Saunders says no one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
