VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — A Powerball ticket worth $2 million has been claimed by a Virginia Beach man.
Forty-eight-year-old Michael Alston celebrated his new wealth Monday at the store where he purchased the ticket. He selected the numbers using the ages of family members.
“I woke up my wife and said, ‘I can’t breathe!’” he recalled. “She thought something was wrong.”
Alston bought the winning ticket at Wawa, located at 2501 Virginia Beach Boulevard in Virginia Beach on Sept. 19. On September 28, he returned to the store to receive his check from the Virginia Lottery. The store also received a $10,000 check for selling the winning ticket.
