NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News teacher will return to the classroom Tuesday after school officials investigated a controversial classroom discussion.
Last week, school officials placed the Heritage High School history teacher on administrative leave. They were investigating her use of a racial slur while discussing Native Americans in class.
The teacher told WAVY a student asked why the Washington Redskins name was offensive. The teacher said she used the N-word in a team name to show the students a different point of view. Some students and parents complained
A school spokesperson told WAVY they finished their investigation and the teacher will be back at work Tuesday morning.
