VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Navy is investigating the death of a 19-year-old locally-based sailor.
The Navy Times reports Electronics Technician Seaman Dalton Frye of West Virginia collapsed Thursday at the end of a 1.5 mile run that was part of a fitness test.
Frye was taken to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital where he died two days later.
Frye was set to graduate next month from the Navy’s Data Link Communication System Maintenance School. He was to report to the destroyer Ramage with the USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group.
Earlier this month, another sailor Chief Engineman Anthony Tuff died after collapsing during a run. He was assigned to the carrier Gerald R. Ford which is under construction at Newport News Shipyard.
