Crews battle fire at Virginia Beach restaurant

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach firefighters battled a blaze at a restaurant on Upton Drive early Saturday morning.

Fire crews responded to 2277 Upton Drive at the Red Mill Walk shopping center around 1:29 a.m. after being notified of a fire alarm at the Back Bay Gourmet restaurant.

According to a news release from the Virginia Beach Fire Department, the restaurant was closed when firefighters arrived so they had to forced entry into the building.

Once inside they found a fire burning in a storage room. The building’s sprinkler system contained the fire to the restaurant and crews were able to bring it under control in about 20 minutes.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
