Family of five displaced by Chesapeake fire

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A family pet died in a house fire in Chesapeake Friday.

Crews arrived at the single-story home in the 700 block of Laurel Avenue at 11:44 a.m. That’s in the Indian River section of Chesapeake. There were heavy flames coming from the structure, according to Capt. Scott Saunders.

Five people live there; two adults and three children, but they were not home at the time. There were two dogs inside the home; when firefighters located them they were unconscious. Firefighters were able to revive one of the dogs, but the other one died.

The family has made arrangements to stay with relatives in the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
