NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters say no one was injured after a fire sparked at an apartment building in Newport News Monday night.

Crews were called out to the Mariners Landing Apartments in the 400 Block of Crescent Way, around 9:30 p.m.

Firefighters said the initial call came in as an electrical problem, but when crews arrived they discovered the fire was burning within a wall of the building and had spread to the second floor.

The fire damage was contained to two apartments, but four apartment units were condemned because of the extensive damage to the building’s electrical system.

Eight people were displaced; the Red Cross is assisting six of them. No one was injured in the fire.
