NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Department of Transportation has released the schedule for overnight lane closures for the I-64 Widening Project.
Crews will begin work on the project Sunday, Sept. 3 until Thursday, Sep. 17.
The eastbound right lane between Fort Eustis Boulevard (exit 250) and Jefferson Avenue (exit 255) will be closed nightly, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
Crews will be milling and paving work in the shoulder lane. The project is the first of three operationally independent segments to increase I-64 travel capacity on the Peninsula by adding an additional travel lane and shoulder lane in each direction between Jefferson Avenue (exit 255) and Yorktown Road (exit 247). Plans are to ultimately widen the interstate to the Route 199 interchange near Lightfoot in York County.
