PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Dominion officials tell WAVY.com a rodent may be to blame for power outages experienced in Portsmouth throughout the day Thursday.
About 2,500 residents reported power outages in the Churchland area of Portsmouth. The outage is near the borderline of Western Branch and Suffolk. Some residents near the borderline may be affected as well, said Dominion.
Officials say they believe a rodent got into the substation in the morning and caused the power outage. Power was later restored. It is believed the afternoon outage might be a complication from the earlier outage. There is currently some equipment that is damaged, said Dominion.
There is no word on when power will be restored. Dominion says they will release more information around 9 p.m.
