Vehicle and shipyard train collide in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – The driver of a vehicle that crashed into a train Tuesday morning was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Warwick Boulevard between 39th Street and 42nd Street is closed as a result of the crash. Police are not sure how long the road will be closed to traffic.

According to Lou Thurston with Newport News police, a woman he described as elderly drove around the barricade and collided with the train, around 8:30 a.m.. Police dispatchers say it was a shipyard locomotive.

She did not have visible injuries, but went to the hospital to get checked out.
